“Now you understand
Just why my head is not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
‘Cause I’m a woman, phenomenally.
Phenomenal Woman,
That’s me.”

Excerpt from Maya Angelou’s “Phenomenal Woman”

This year in Oct, I turn 1/2 a century. For the last 50 years, I have experienced ups, downs, highs, lows, happy times and heartache. I thank God for bringing me through it all. I salute those phenomenal people who paved the way for me, who cried with me and most of all prayed for me. I appreciate all but this year, I’m choosing to honor 50 beautiful women who placed a special stamp on my heart. Thus, I’ve affectionately named my Phenomenal 50.

Starting last month until the week of my birthday in October, I am sending a small special thank you to my Phenomenal 50 who have been in my life through it all.  The beautiful “S” journal pictured is heading out the door this week. My birthday hashtag is #Tanturns50. Join in the fun!

Do you have phenomenal women or men in your life? Leave me a comment and tell me how do you celebrate them?

  1. I had no idea you were celebrating the big 5 – 0 this year. I will be doing the same this year. My birthday is November 5th but the celebration will begin on a cruise in October. My theme for the year is “Living My Life cuz It’s Golden”. I have been surrounded by some phenomenal women and I am so thankful for each and every one of them. My mother takes the number one spot and is the most phenomenal woman I know. I thank God for her everyday.

    • Courtney, Awesome! My birthday is Oct 4. And, it’s funny…Living My Life because It’s Golden” is one of the themes, I’m thinking of using because my theme colors are gold and black with a touch of red. I’m feeling good about the big 5-0!

  2. I honor my Mother as well, It’s such a beautiful thing to give thanks to someone that plays such a important role in your life. I love my mother with all my heart, and I cherish her; she’s my mother, friend, and more! This is such a heart-felt and warm post. Thank you for sharing; also I wish you a happy birthday! Many well wishes to you!
